We would appreciate your nomination for the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards “COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR” award. To nominate HIV/AIDS|ZIMBABWE CHARITY INC (HAZ), please go to http://www.mafaro.com/awards/index.php before Friday February 14th, 2011 and submit your nomination.

We believe we are a deserving candidate for this award because although HAZ remains small as an organization, we have grown in our accomplishments since our formation in 2005.

In 2009 and 2010, the organization survived without any source of external funding, and was nonetheless able to sustain its two small HIV/AIDS clinics in Zimbabwe, which provide free AIDS medications to indigent Zimbabweans. This was done largely from out-of-pocket donations from the staff of HAZ, with the HAZ staff in Zimbabwe dutifully caring out their work even when they were no longer receiving compensation for their work. Although we did receive a few donations, most of the funding that sustained the clinics came from the personal donations of the HAZ staff and our partners at Friends of Picardy Drive, and also from various cost-saving measures and sacrifices across the entire organization. HAZ has demonstrated that it embodies a true spirit of servitude to other Zimbabweans, and just by surviving through 2009-2010, we have shown a remarkable commitment (we think) to ourvision.

In requesting your nomination, we are seeking more than just recognition. We believe that through recognition will come more support for our efforts, and through that support, an increased capacity for us to accomplish the various objectives of our projects in Zimbabwe. Most importantly though, we believe that with more support, we will not only be able to ensure lengthy and healthy livelihoods for our current patients, but for perhaps an increased number of patients.
